(Dominican Today) Dominican Port Authority director Víctor Gómez Casanova on Mon. stressed a commitment to contribute with public policies that strengthen environmental management, in an effort to prevent and mitigate the environmental impacts from port operations.

“The large commercial ports are increasingly aware of their environmental responsibilities, and of the need to incorporate, as a priority objective in their strategic plans, respect for the environment,” he said.

“For some time now in the Dominican Port Authority we have been emphasizing efforts to establish in the country the concept of the green port, a sustainable model from which the ports carry out their productive activity causing the minimum impact on the environment, providing measures of improvement and quality control of air, water, noise and waste,” said Gómez.

The official spoke at the Workshop Seminar “Strengthening of the Environmental Port Management Fogap 2019” to be organized with the Central American Maritime Transport Commission (Cocatram), as part of Agreement on Environmental Cooperation of the Free Trade Agreement between the Dominican Republic, Central America and the United States, DR-Cafta.
